WasteFile (Reconomy) agrees investment with Bregal Capital

WasteFile UK was a waste management and land remediation firm serving the print, construction, municipal, and manufacturing industries. Now known as Reconomy, the business provides complete support, expert advice, and legal compliance for all waste management needs.

BCMS advised the shareholders of WasteFile on this 2006 transaction, which saw investment agreed with PE investor Englefield Capital (itself subsequently acquired by Bregal Capital).

Post-deal developments

The Telford-based business was established by leading industry figure Paul Cox – a former winner of EY Entrepreneur of The Year. Having developed his own dry waste business in the early 1990s, Paul then helped create the WasteFile organisation in 1999 and took part in a management buyout in 2001.

This BCMS-led transaction was a key milestone in the history of the company that has demonstrated significant growth over the years. Reconomy has subsequently made a number of strategic acquisitions, including the purchase of another BCMS client, Network Waste.

A clear leader in its sector, Reconomy now features on The Times 250 Fast Track, and in 2019 total turnover exceeded £330m.
