RG Bassett & Sons sold to SJ Bargh

S J Bargh Ltd, the leading milk logistics company in the North West of England, has acquired R G Bassett & Sons Ltd (Bassetts), in a deal advised by BCMS.

First established in 1897, Bassetts provides comprehensive transport services throughout mainland UK, including general haulage and overnight palletised distribution, warehousing and driver training. The company, which is based in Tittensor, Stoke on Trent, has a modern fleet and an 11-acre site well positioned for nationwide deliveries. The company works with an extensive and loyal multi-sector client base.

The acquirer, Lancaster-based S J Bargh Limited, provides specialist logistics including milk distribution. The firm collects four million litres of milk daily for clients including Arla Foods, Joseph Heler and Müller Milk and Ingredients. Established in 1935, S J Bargh has a rich history and has extensive transport, warehouse and logistics experience.

Strategic growth plans

As part of planned strategic growth and geographic expansion, and in-line with other expansion plans in the area, this acquisition strengthens S J Bargh’s general and palletised haulage capability and provides larger warehousing capacity.

The S J Bargh Group now comprises 500+ employees across four sites in the North West and Midlands with a fleet of 500+ vehicles and assets, along with 120,000 sq ft of warehousing.

Claire Bassett, Director of Bassetts, says: “We are delighted because we know there is a very bright future ahead with S J Bargh, not least because they share our family values and complement our services. Laurence Bassett and I will remain in the business to ensure there is a smooth transition and continuity for our customers and employees.”
