Direct Medical Imaging sold to Alliance Medical Group

A UK medical practice, which provides patient scans and x-ray services to the National Health Service (NHS) and the private sector, has been sold to Alliance Medical Group in a deal managed by BCMS.

Alliance Medical has acquired 100% of Lancashire-based Direct Medical Imaging (DMI) for an undisclosed sum from DMI’s two founders, as it continues to build its national footprint in outsourced radiology services.

The deal includes DMI’s top-of-the-range scanners, skilled radiologists and physiotherapists, and extensive regional client base including football clubs, insurance providers, and NHS trusts.

Deal commentary

DMI’s Dr Roger Bury, who founded the business alongside Dr Colin Walshaw, said: “DMI has proved very popular with both referred patients and medical practitioners, and while Colin and I have continued to invest in the business, we both feel that now is the right time to hand over the reins to a larger organisation.

“Alliance is a perfect fit to take DMI to the next stage of its growth, and although we’re sad to be moving on, this is a good deal for staff, customers and patients alike.”

Alliance Medical MD Mark Chapman said: “We are delighted to further extend our National Network of imaging centres through the acquisition of DMI. Roger and Colin have built a business with a strong reputation and we look forward to developing this further.”
