Murray & Roberts has acquired Aquamarine Water Treatment for R28m ($1.8m) in a deal advised by BCMS Xigo.

Headquartered in Cape Town, Aquamarine designs, manufactures and installs water treatment solutions, operating in a niche market for mainly small to-medium size installations and has developed a network of resellers throughout the African continent that serves as an extended business development network.

Johannesburg-listed construction and infrastructure contractor Murray & Roberts set up its water division in 2012,to serve the mining, industrial and municipal sectors of sub-Saharan Africa. It focuses on design, build, commissioning and operation & maintenance of mine water, sea water desalination, waste water re-use and industrial water treatment plants

Harry Singleton, Operations Executive, Murray & Roberts Water said: “Aquamarine will augment Murray & Roberts’ entry into the equipment and technology supply, as well as the operations and maintenance segments of the project value chain. Aquamarines’ technology is ideal for much larger water treatment solutions including containerised modular plants.”

“Murray & Roberts Water’s strategic intent is to design and build water treatment plants and to operate and maintain these installations. Our current competence and capability, combined with Aquamarine’s equipment design, supply, operations and maintenance skills, will provide the opportunity to access large water treatment project opportunities across the continent,” concludes Singleton.
