BCMS – a true family business
One of the key reasons many clients choose to work with BCMS is that unlike other M&A advisories, BCMS is a genuine family business. Many of our clients are entrepreneurs who founded their own businesses, just like Brian, Dave and Steve Rebbettes, who established BCMS back in 1989.
I believe that every company is a reflection of the owners. And since the owners of a corporate organisation are very different to the owners of a family-run SME, it is no surprise that the two types of organisation operate with a very different ethos…
The Rebbettes family understands what it is like to start, grow and sell a business. While BCMS is now a multinational organisation, completing successful transactions across the world, the family ethos remains the same. Today, three generations of Rebbettes work for the company. As Steve Rebbettes explains: “We’re keen not to show any preferential treatment to family members within the business. But the way we do that is not by treating family members badly, but by treating everybody else as though they’re family.”
‘Giving something back’ is a core value of all at BCMS – many staff are involved in a wide range of charitable fundraising activities both in and out of work. To help improve the lives of those less fortunate, the BCMS Directors formed ‘The Poor and the Needy Benefit Trust’, an organisation specifically created to support people who live in some of the world’s most deprived areas.
The Trust has supported the construction of a three-storey school in Kakinada, India, which educates over 300 children from poor homes. The school gives these children a very real opportunity to make positive changes to their own lives and those of their families and communities.
The Trust has provided financial aid to support the construction of a much needed orphanage in Bangalore, one of the poorest cities in India. The orphanage provides safety, shelter and comfort to abandoned and orphaned children, ranging from 3 to 10 years old.
Funds from our Trust have also been used to establish a project in a village in North India. This aims to support the villagers to develop their own farming business, so they can create a sustainable future for generations to come.
Each year, a BCMS Corporate Director visits our projects to ensure that the money donated directly benefits the people our Trust was formed to support. Although we still have much to achieve, we’re proud of the life changing initiatives we have helped to finance.
