UK vehicle tracking specialist merges with Italian telematics group
Enigma Telematics of the UK has merged with Italy’s Viasat Group to create a leading pan-European business serving the fleet and insurance industries.
Established in 1992 and based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, Enigma Telematics provides industry-leading telematics solutions, enabling its customers to track, trace and monitor their fleet vehicles, construction plant and other remote assets.
Enigma’s flagship product is Skyline, a web-based vehicle tracking, fleet management and security system. Designed for rapid deployment at low initial cost, Skyline uses GPS and wireless technology to provide companies with real-time data from their remote mobile assets, from trailers and generators to fleet vehicles and heavy-duty, off-road construction equipment.
Viasat Telematics Ltd was established in London in 2013 to spearhead the international development of the Viasat Group which is a market leading Italian company based in Turin since 1974. The Group specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of telematics products & services to Fleet and Insurance industries.
While both companies will be looking to enjoy the benefits of a larger cooperation, they will remain independent in their own markets, with Enigma continuing to operate under the same name in the UK and Viasat Group maintaining its image in Italy. One of the big changes however, will be a combining of resources, which will see increased investment in software and hardware development over the next few years, much of which will come from an expanded R&D facility currently operated by Viasat.
It’s expected that over time, these developments will deliver improved product performance and features for customers.
International development began in 2012 with Viasat Servicios Telematicos based in Madrid and continued with the acquisition of a majority stake in Enigma Telematics in 2014. Enigma is an established fleet management business based in the UK with over 40,000 connected assets and exports to 25 overseas markets in Middle East, Africa and Asia.
With over 600,000 connected assets within the group a dedicated and passionate workforce of around 350 people and revenues approaching Euro 55 million the business is well poised to exploit the opportunities that lay ahead.
