Hartford Holdings has acquired Warwickshire-based Thomas Crapper & Company Ltd
Hartford Holdings has acquired Warwickshire-based Thomas Crapper & Company Ltd. BCMS acted as lead advisor to the shareholders of Thomas Crapper during the transaction.
Thomas Crapper & Co. is one of the world’s best-known bathroom brands; it produces historically accurate bathroom and cloakroom fittings, including baths, basins, taps, showers, WCs and woodwork. This unique brand was established over 150 years ago and was at the forefront of the nineteenth century sanitary revolution. The company has remained true to its roots; all products are produced by specialist British manufacturers to very specific, detailed and authentic Crapper-produced designs.
The company has built a network of retailers and distributors across Britain and overseas.
Yorkshire-based Hartford Holdings owns Trojan Plastics, which is one of the largest manufacturers of acrylic baths in Europe. Established in 1975 and still owned by the founding Mosley family, the company has built a reputation for highest quality manufacturing; continually investing in new designs, plant and equipment, and retaining production in the UK.
Director Adam Mosley of Hartford Holdings said: “We are delighted to now own the premier name in sanitaryware and look forward to the challenge of growing the business in both domestic and international markets.”
Warrick Knott and Simon Kirby from Thomas Crapper said: “We are very proud of saving Thomas Crapper & Co. from obscurity and for re-creating our small range of Victorian-style sanitaryware. Particularly we have enjoyed dealing with the heritage aspects of this 155-year-old company. However, after 18 years we truly believe that the time has come for others with greater resources to take the firm to the next level.
“We are sure Adam and David of Hartford Holdings are the very men to achieve that aim and we wish them the very best. We extend our gratitude to all at BCMS, especially to Judith Robinson our deal leader who was on hand to guide us throughout the process.”
BCMS Deal Leader Judith Robinson, who managed the transaction, comments: “It has been a fascinating process working with such an iconic and interesting brand, and I wish the vendors every success in their future ventures, and Hartford Holdings a great future with Thomas Crapper.”
