Social care group Potens continues expansion in South West England
Social care provider Potens has expanded its operations in South West England with the acquisition of Devon-based Besmart South West, in a deal advised by M&A specialist BCMS.
Besmart is a specialist in providing residential care for adults with learning difficulties, and the transaction centres on the nine-bedroom residential complex near Dawlish.
Birkenhead-based Potens runs a network of 52 services, from Torquay to Newcastle, and said the acquisition – for an undisclosed sum – would provide a valuable foothold for further consolidation in the sector.
Nicki Stadames of Potens said: “We are delighted to be part of such an exciting acquisition. Besmart is delivering fantastic support locally, and we are impressed with the service delivery and the high standards at the Home. This service aligns with Potens’ values and vision for the future and we welcome the staff team, service users and families into our Group.
“We hope to meet many more stakeholders over the coming weeks to find out how we can work together to share best practice, and really invest our resources to increase the opportunities for the individuals and families involved.”
BCMS Deal Leader Scott Jones said: “Many social care businesses face an uncertain future from council funding cuts, welfare reform and living wage requirements, and joining a larger group is a viable alternative to operating as an independent.
“Besmart is a very well run provider, and we’re delighted to have found a long term solution for the staff and residents as part of the Potens group.”
